Initially, this method was used in the rehabilitation of soldiers and dancers. The main concept behind Pilates is to strengthen the deep muscles, especially the so-called centre of the body (or core). This type of exercise translates into better stabilisation of the spine, improved posture, and reduced risk of injury. A thing characteristic for Pilates is that the moves are performed slowly, precisely, with attention and great control of breathing and muscle tone.
