Short summary:
Storing winter clothes - a challenge we know how to tackle!
Many lose sleep over storing winter clothes, especially if they don't have plenty of storage space to work with. A small apartment that houses one wardrobe for jackets in the hallway and another one in the bedroom - is often not enough to effortlessly store clothes for every season. Very often such cases require a wardrobe change-over with the coming spring-summer season and winter clothes end up in...well, that's the problem. And that's where we get to the point!
How to store winter clothes so that everything is neatly stowed away, but the clothes do not end up damaged? It all depends on several issues, but let's take it one at a time. Below is a handful of practical tricks to help you perfectly organise your closet.
Choose some brand-new spring pieces for her:
Before you start sorting
Before you get down to packing your clothes away in bags, containers, and boxes, start by preparing your clothes to spend a few months in the closet. Never store away dirty - and certainly not damp - clothes. This is an easy way to get rid of those clothes for good. Damp, tightly packed clothing is the perfect growth environment for mould and bacteria. These are also ideal conditions for moth larvae that thrive in a damp, dark, and warm environment.
How to prevent it?
Plan the washing and thorough drying phase. If you have woolen pieces and don't quite know how to wash or clean such items, it's better to leave it to specialists. A wool coat or cashmere sweaters are clothes that should be handled at a good dry cleaners. The specialists there will take good care of them, and you'll be done with this preparation phase.
The same applies to winter shoes. First of all, remove all the salt as it damages shoes, especially those made of natural leather. Although there are many cleaning agents available on the market, leaving salt on a shoe surface to dwell for several months makes it extremely difficult or simply impossible to get rid of it the moment another winter season comes around.
Step two - sorting
To make your work easier, sort all the clothes you want to put away. This way, once the summer is over, and you reach for autumn and winter apparel, you will know where they are and avoid chaos.
Keep sweaters, trousers, coats and jackets together, and designate separate space for accessories such as hats, scarves, gloves and shoes. Sorting your clothes is also a good opportunity to do a closet inventory and get rid of the pieces you have no intention of wearing anymore. You can use the car boot sale idea and earn a few pennies to buy new stuff :)

To store winter clothes stowed away deep in the closet, under the bed or in other storage spaces, you will need a lot of different types of organisers and boxes.
What will work best?
Vacuum bags
This is a great way to save space. How does it work? You put the contents of your choice into a plastic bag, close it (usually these are string bags), and then remove the air from the bag. As a result, the clothes are compressed and their bulky size is significantly reduced, which will save plenty of space.
This method will work especially well for down, quilted jackets and winter coats. The downside of this solution is certainly that clothes compressed in this way will be crumpled when removed from the bag. So choose this method for such items of clothing that are not wrinkle-prone and are not so delicate that there is a risk of fabric damage. A downside to this solution is also the fact that clothes sealed tightly for several months without access to air may have an unpleasant stench to them and may require machine washing after all this time.
Plastic containers
Another tried-and-true method involves plastic containers in various sizes. This is a particularly good solution if you have a space where you can stack such containers, a little bit as if they were building blocks. For example, if you have a storage bed, this is the perfect place for keeping several boxes. Plastic containers for winter clothes can also fill the least accessible areas in your closet that you don't use on a daily basis anyway.
There is yet another advantage to such clothing storage accessories as plastic containers - they will effectively protect clothes from the dust that accumulates over months. Choose transparent containers - this way you will be able to see the contents. After a few months, you may simply not remember what was in a particular container.
Breathable fabric bags
If you don't want to pack your winter clothes in plastic bags or plastic containers, fabric bags are an alternative option. Since you want to give up plastic, choose natural fabric such as linen or cotton. This will help protect your clothes from getting musty and air circulation will improve the condition of your clothes, even after months of months of being stowed away.

How to store a wool coat - practical tips
A wool coat is a piece that requires special treatment. How to store it so that after a few months it still looks great? First of all, once the winter season is over, do not leave any stains or dirt on the coat that may be tough to remove after a long period of time.
There are two ways of storing the coat:
First of all, a classic coat cover bag will work great. It protects clothing from excessive dust accumulation. Any closet space that's hard to reach is perfect for storing such a coat. It can patiently wait for its season there.
However, if you don't have so much space, and every hanger is a particularly precious space, then go for a box to stow your coat away. For example, it can be a cardboard box adjusted to the size of its contents, or a plastic container like the ones we described above. The key to storing your wool coat wisely is the way you place it in a container. The main thing is to fold it in such a way that after a few months it will not be wrinkled and crumpled. Ideally, you should turn the coat inside out. This way, you can be sure that the material won't sustain any accidental damage from the outside.
Fold the coat flat - lay it on the floor, then start by folding the sleeves inward. Then gently fold the remaining fabric into a neat cube. Remember not to put any pressure on the clothes. It is also not recommended to attempt to excessively reduce the volume of woolen fabrics.

Smart tips for storing winter clothes
Last but not least, we have some extra advice for you when it comes to storing winter clothes. If you want them to smell nice after long months of storage, place small lavender sachets in bags or containers. This will not only make your clothes smell nice, but also prevent moths from getting at them, as the scent of lavender repels them.
To get rid of moisture - for example, from your shoes or down jackets - put cubes or bags of desiccant beads between your clothes. A similar method can be applied to get rid of unpleasant odours. There are special odour-trapping cubes on the market that are perfect for footwear.
Pack up your winter clothes and rediscover them in the next winter season. And if you are already looking for brand new spring pieces, don't miss out on our offer.
